My 6 year old son is homeschooled and while we teach him the required curriculum, we also like to add “fun” things, like trips to local farms, museums, and historical landmarks. Another fun thing we add in are projects like this OWI Robotic Arm Edge – on Amazon. We broke down the assembly over the course of a few days, about 45 minutes a day, and his part is to read the instructions, then he is given the pieces that he needs, and slowly puts it together while my husband double checks his work.
My son is into robots, and appears to like putting together projects with us. Usually my husband takes over these more engineering tasks because he likes machines, while I usually do crafting projects together with my him. Note that this project also needs batteries, so don’t forget to add that if you’re buying this as a gift.
Another gift I thought they might be fun to put together in the future is the Jimu Robot. My son was really interested in this one, but his name is Jim, so maybe that had something to do with it. Haha 😄
